The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series #1)

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series #1) - My Youtube review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j1iXeXRNYQI had heard a lot about this book and also heard that many compared it to Harry Potter. Usually when I hear books being compared to Harry Potter, I need to read them so I can challenge those comparisons. These were my thoughts: I loved that the book was told from Percy Jackson's point of view. I believe [a:Rick Riordan|15872|Rick Riordan|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1204641046p2/15872.jpg] did an amazing job at portraying Percy. Percy starts out at, I believe, 12 years old, so the writing is very easy to read. It's not poetic, metaphoric or filled with symbols. It is an amazing story told from a trouble teenage boy's point of view, which allows it to be a little relaxed on writing style. I fell in love with Percy's character. He's brave, funny, slightly sarcastic and a supportive friend. I really enjoyed the other main characters, especially Annabelle and Grover.I thought the plot was intense and exciting right from beginning to end. I especially enjoyed the mixture of Greek mythology and the real world. I found it interesting how[a:Rick Riordan|15872|Rick Riordan|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1204641046p2/15872.jpg] tied the idea of Greek Gods into the Western world. In regards to the comparisons people have been making to Harry Potter: STOP. They have very different elements of adventure and fantasy to them. I think both series are epic stories, but should not be compared.Overall I give The Lightning Theif five stars because it was a fast read, an epic story and I LOVE PERCY JACKSON.
